Words Like honey

Did you know that honey does not ever go bad when stored properly? In fact, honey found in a 3,000 year old Egyptian tomb was still perfectly edible. Its low moisture content and acidity level creates an environment unsuitable for bacteria to grow, allowing it to have an indefinite shelf life.

Honey has been traditionally used in medicine throughout the centuries and continues to be used even today. It is used to fight infections, promote tissue regrowth, and reduce inflammation. In hives, the bees use honey as a sort of catch all for food, energy, and warmth.

Just as honey nourishes, heals, and blesses the body, so do our kind words. The word blessing means “to bestow good of any kind upon”. There is power in our words, life or death in the tongue (Prov. 18:21). Just as honey is sweet to the taste and aids in healing, so do kind words bring joy and healing to the souls of those we speak to. The average person speaks around 16,000 words per day. How many of those do we fail to recognize as curses over others and even ourselves? It is imperative we take captive every thought and allow only blessings to flow out.

Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
